Deb's house as we begin our walk--notice the line of laundry--so Italian!
(Because no one has a dryer!) |
My friends, Deb and Fred who I am staying with, live outside of the little town of Monterosi. It really is a little town—Wikipedia has all of two lines on it. The city stats list a population just under 2,000. And their population name is monterosini—I’m not sure why that’s included in every “comuni-Italiani” listing, but it is. The city’s patron saint is Esaltazione della Santa Croce and the mayor is Francesco Paris. Only in Italy is your patron saint part of your city statistics.
Anyway, Deb and I walked from their house out in the country into the town of Monterosi, walked around a bit (it doesn’t take long to walk through the town!) and then had a gelato before walking back another way.

Okay, so Blogger's being weird again, and I can't caption the above photos. This is the town of Monterosi--their main street, their piazza, their chiesa (church) of San Giuseppe, the interior of the church. The red and white flags are for their contrada--their neighborhood group. The other half of town is yellow and white.
On the way home we saw sheep in an olive grove and an interesting farm implement; or perhaps it was yard art?

| Farming tool? Yard art?? |
Of course their restored farmhouse has a pizza oven--so Fred made home made pizza for dinner!

That night after dinner, Fred was lamenting that HE didn’t get a gelato, so we went again. Another two gelato day!
